Hello everyone,
We applied red lime felt plaster with a 1mm (0.04 inch) grain size in two rooms, partly over gypsum plaster and partly over red lime base plaster. It all looks great.
Now I’m looking for a good silicate paint that is also affordable. Could you recommend paints based on your experience?
Prices vary from about 30€ to several hundred euros.
I would appreciate any recommendations.
Best regards,
Olli

@Matthew03 The alligator colors seem really good in terms of price/performance.
How far does a 12.5-liter (13.2 US gallons) bucket go? Are the specifications of 150–180 ml/m² (0.31–0.37 oz/ft²) accurate?
Is a primer no longer necessary? Phew... that was two years ago... don’t hold me to it, but I think I needed about 5–6 buckets for the whole house. Living area was 156 m² (1680 ft²), and ceilings were also painted with it. I once calculated the square meters of the walls somewhere, but I can’t seem to find that anymore. You don’t need a primer.

A really effective rule of thumb for a single-family house is to take the floor area and multiply it by 3.5 to estimate the total area of walls and ceilings to be painted. Primer is recommended with silicate paints on lime-cement plaster and drywall (gypsum board), as far as I recall; otherwise, you’ll just need an extra coat of paint. But primer is cheaper than paint, so…
