Hello everyone!

The house construction is finally finished, and we are now setting up our apartment after the last joint was plastered and the final wallpaper and paint are in place. We are looking for beautiful paintings for our new home to make it really cozy, of course 🙂 We have already done some online research and found Zimmermann & Heitmann, whose style suits our taste quite well.

However, we have no knowledge about art or its value. Could someone here give us some advice on the price ratios? Are the prices of this provider reasonable?

We are complete beginners on this topic and naturally don’t want to spend more money than necessary.

We appreciate any tips!

Best regards

Which artist do you prefer? Should it be a painting, a graphic artwork, or rather a photograph?

When it comes to art, you spend what it’s worth to you or what you personally value.

... and not everything labeled as art is art for everyone. Art means something different to each person.

For nordanney, abstract art is not art, while for you, vacation photos are not art.

You want a picture or painting that will have, of course, a special place in a visible spot. I think the space above the sofa is always an eye-catcher.
So, you should take more time to choose YOUR artwork. Especially when selecting wall art, it needs time to grow on you. You have to live with the walls and eventually think: this is exactly where I can imagine something large, colorful, black and white, small, a collection, natural, abstract, or humorous.

It doesn’t have to be a painting either: thankfully, the era of the stag paintings is over (although there are still places where it fits). Nowadays, people also use reliefs or various arranged materials and structures to create a collage (for example driftwood, metal, fabric, tree slices).
A nice rug could also be an idea, or you might focus on an elegant frame that holds a mirror.

In this sense, your parents are right that some art belongs on the wall in a designated spot—but the concept and content of art have fortunately changed a lot.

However, whether you spend money on something you have no understanding of is seriously questionable—after all, appreciating art requires a good measure of passion... and if you don’t (yet), then there’s no need to pretend otherwise 😉

Although I am an amateur myself, I would like to offer a tip: don’t buy artworks based on the artist’s name, but rather purchase pieces you like from “unknown” artists in small galleries. I would expect you to get the best value for money this way. Famous names don’t really matter as long as you have something genuine on your wall that you enjoy.

I also think painting yourself is a nice activity. If you like abstract art and are not really skilled at drawing, you can still pick up a brush. It definitely won’t be obvious, it will likely be admired, and it is guaranteed to be a one-of-a-kind piece. 😉 🙂

That’s how I do it 🙂

We have now ordered a wall decal with the text: "When we have money again, a Picasso will hang here" 😀 😀 😀

Besides that, we also had some nice vacation photos printed on canvas.
