ᐅ Tension cord in Venetian blind has snapped. Is this covered under warranty by the builder/developer?

Hello everyone,

We still have one year of warranty left before the 5-year period expires.
Now, a drawstring of the blinds has broken, and they move up and down unevenly.

Our builder refuses to cover this under warranty because it is considered a movable part.
The repair, including disassembly, is estimated to cost around 600 euros.

Now my questions to you: Wouldn’t something like this be covered under the builder’s warranty?
We had a turnkey contract.

Thanks in advance.

That offer is really something. Charging for one unit of installation/repair based on time spent... yeah right, it doesn’t get less transparent than that. So the one installation ends up costing twice as much or what?
If he wants to charge based on time, then the hourly rate should be fixed. Or he could set a flat rate (per unit...).
And 330€ net for installation... that’s two people working three hours each at 55€ net per hour. Quite a fuss for a broken little strap, isn’t it?
I’d get another quote.

My thoughts exactly....

Stupid question: can you fix the problem yourself if you have the material? According to the quote, the material itself isn’t very expensive.

The 600€ is also just a rough estimate, and charging "based on effort" is basically an invitation to overcharge.

The part shown in the picture belongs to the house. Unless something like this is explicitly excluded in the contract, it is covered by the 5-year warranty. The material effort is limited, and the workers cost the company significantly less. Basically, it’s not a big deal. It’s best to have a proper discussion with them or just do it yourself with the material...

Actually, I’m not completely inexperienced. But I’m not confident about this task, especially since I’m not the most patient person with these kinds of things.

On the other hand, I agree that this is part of the structure of the house. So I definitely won’t be touching it.

In my opinion, the offer is also way too high. For now, I won’t be getting any more quotes. I estimate the offer is about 200-250 euros ($) too expensive, plus the additional note that the costs will be calculated based on actual effort.

I’ll keep you updated regarding the warranty. As mentioned, the contract doesn’t specify which items are covered by the guarantee and which are not.

We are also supposed to have a window replaced. He hasn’t come by for weeks. Most likely, he’s giving me extra time, hoping that I’ll have fixed the blinds by then.

Looking for and finding tradespeople. 50€ (about $55) is the baseline.

You can probably calculate for yourself approximately how long it would take to replace the part. Then subtract about 40-50% of that time, and you

otherwise, it’s simply a warranty case. If necessary, send a letter from a lawyer. But first, try to resolve it properly...
