I would like to hear your pros and cons regarding the topic of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. What motivated you to install such a system, or why did you decide against it? For those who already use mechanical ventilation with heat recovery: what are the practical advantages and disadvantages?

I found a good entry on Google right away 😉 You can try searching for it yourself. Overall, the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages. Of course, it does cost money :O

Hello,
In our new two-family house, we chose not to install a mechanical ventilation system, mainly for building biology (health-related) reasons. Since we also used a lot of wood and clay in the construction, we achieve a very good indoor climate even without mechanical ventilation. This allows moisture to be absorbed and released as needed. By ventilating manually, we maintain full control over the indoor air quality. This requires a bit more effort but is very healthy. From an energy perspective, heat loss during ventilation is minimal because we heat with a masonry heater (radiant heat).

A stone house offers several advantages, but it also comes at a cost. The air quality is good, and the used air is extracted. The windows can remain closed, which helps reduce noise.

I would avoid something like that as well. Of course, manufacturers guarantee a clean indoor climate. But if you live in a rural area, you can achieve the same by ventilating regularly.

I have a central mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery, which draws in fresh air. I consider this a major advantage. The outdoor air is also filtered in this system.
