Hello everyone, I plan to retrofit soft-close mechanisms on my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet doors and then adjust them properly. I want to ensure the doors not only close quietly but are also perfectly aligned, as I have read that improper adjustments can cause issues such as rubbing, incomplete closing, or misalignment.

I have the IKEA Metod frame fronts and know that the original hinges already support soft-close functionality, but my doors currently have the basic hinges installed.

Here are my specific questions:
- Which soft-close modules are definitely compatible with the Metod doors?
- What is the recommended procedure for retrofitting to avoid damage to the wood or hinges?
- Are there any tips for precise adjustment, especially when retrofitting later, to ensure perfect gaps and smooth closing?

I look forward to your experiences and best advice – also welcome are suggestions regarding tools or necessary techniques.

Hello Chenpo! Great topic, I recently did this on my Metod kitchen – retrofitted soft-close and perfectly adjusted the doors! 😄

The most important thing is to first buy the correct soft-close mechanisms directly from IKEA, as they are specifically designed for the Metod hinges.

- Simply remove the old hinge, lift off the door, and click the soft-close module onto the hinge arm.
- When attaching, it’s crucial that the clips snap in securely; otherwise, it can come loose quickly.
- For adjustment: first roughly set the door’s lateral and height positions, then use the depth adjustment on the hinge. This is how you achieve perfect alignment.

Once the soft-close module is installed, you can sometimes adjust it to be tighter or looser to control the closing speed – very handy!

Good luck – it’s really fun and provides a great closing feel 😉

Regarding your inquiry about retrofitting soft-close on Metod doors:

1. Usage: IKEA offers soft-close modules specifically designed for Metod hinges (product numbers are documented by IKEA, e.g., Maximera soft-close or suitable dampers for Metod).
2. Installation: The modules snap onto the hinge arm; the door must be removed for this. It is recommended to follow the IKEA instructions carefully to avoid damage.
3. Adjustment: Metod hinges feature 3D adjustability – height, side, and depth can be adjusted independently. First, adjust the height, then the lateral alignment, and finally the depth to ensure optimal door alignment.
4. Recommendation: After installation and adjustment, test the closing behavior several times, as the mechanism can be fine-tuned with minor readjustments.

Tools: A Phillips screwdriver and possibly a small Allen key, depending on the model, are sufficient.

Hello Chenpo, I can fully understand your question. Some time ago, I also converted the doors of my Metod kitchen to soft-close.

A few points I consider especially important:
- Be careful when removing the doors to avoid damaging the hinges.
- The soft-close modules only fit the Metod standard hinges. If you have different hinge types, you might need to replace them first.
- For adjustment, I recommend working with the doors slightly open and making changes step by step: first the height, then the lateral adjustment, and finally the depth.
- It is important to do a quick test run after each adjustment: the door should operate smoothly without sticking.

If you have any further questions about the correct procedure, feel free to ask!

Retrofit soft-close:
- Remove the doors.
- Snap the module onto the hinge arm.
- Rehang the doors.
- Adjust: height → side → depth.
- Check when closing.

Done.

Kudos for upgrading, Chenpo! ✨

My advice: Take your time and do it comfortably; soft-close fittings give your kitchen fronts a premium feel.😉 You can really notice the difference when the door closes gently for the first time!

Important:
- Use the original modules to ensure a perfect fit.
- When adjusting, make small increments to avoid misaligning the door gap.
- If you hear any creaking sounds, check that the module is properly snapped into place – it can definitely affect the feeling of quality.

Good luck, and don’t forget to take a coffee break! ☕
