Hello,

I am looking for a clear answer.

Our house is about to be plastered on the inside, but before that, the vapor barrier needs to be properly installed. I have heard that it is advisable to fill in any wall chases (created for electrical wiring) before applying the interior plaster to prevent cracking.

Is this correct?

Our builder would not do this and considers it unnecessary.

What is the right approach?

@Nordlys, Is it still necessary to apply filler before wallpapering?

I think it might work without it. I'm not sure. Ask a painter...

Today, I tried to find out how the plastering is done, whether the grooves are sealed first and then the plaster is applied, or if everything is done in one step.

According to my site manager, if the first method is used, it should be possible to skip that step.

Unfortunately, I couldn't reach anyone at the plastering company, and I don’t trust the statements from the construction supervisor.

He only comes once a week to check on things.

A lot can be missed that way.

The filler for the grooves should no longer be "fresh" when the plaster is applied. Doing both steps in one go is, in my opinion, not practical—and indicates that the plaster is being used for filling as well. It's like trying to compensate for a missing concealer by applying more foundation—the different applications justify using differently formulated products, in my view. 🙂
