Hello everyone, I chose glass fronts for our new IKEA Metod kitchen and want to maintain them properly using household methods, without the glass surfaces becoming dull or leaving streaks. Are there any proven tips on how to clean the glass fronts from the Metod series gently and effectively? I am especially interested in which products can be used that are commonly available at home and won’t damage the surface, as I have read that aggressive cleaners can harm the glass appearance or the seals. I would appreciate it if anyone has experience with the Metod glass fronts and how to care for them using simple home remedies. Maybe also some advice on the right cleaning technique to achieve a truly streak-free and shiny result.

Apply vinegar water or warm dish soap water only briefly. Dry streak-free immediately with a microfiber cloth. Do not leave seals wet.

Hey Linuno and everyone else, I have something funny to add 😄 Regarding streak-free cleaning and home remedies: I once covered a mixture of water, a bit of lemon juice, and a splash of olive oil (for shine) with a wool blanket and tried it out. It’s amazing how shiny the surface gets when you polish it properly afterward! Of course, the oil has to be used sparingly, otherwise it gets greasy. This works great especially on glass surfaces that aren’t heavily used. The seals? Don’t wet them, or I’ll just say "Yuck, this gets weird" 😂 So always treat only the clean glass surface.

I can only agree with Linuno – the seals are indeed a sensitive issue. I had problems before because I made the corners too wet and the surface became a bit greasy afterward. Simply wiping again with clear water and drying it helps. Also try wiping the surfaces with plain water after rinsing with vinegar to remove any vinegar residue. This way, you can prevent rubber seals from becoming brittle over time. Especially when using household remedies like vinegar or citric acid, you should avoid using too much.

This is exactly the core issue: glass is durable, but unfortunately, the seals and fittings are not. I always recommend gentle cleaning with warm water plus a few drops of dish soap. For grease stains, diluted vinegar (e.g. 1:3) also works. It’s important to wipe off immediately with a dry cloth to avoid streaks and damage. Aggressive cleaners, abrasive agents, or alcohol-based cleaners should definitely be avoided.

👍 Absolutely agree! Using those will quickly ruin the good appearance. I swear by the duo of water and a microfiber cloth, with a bit of vinegar now and then. If you take it easy and have fun, cleaning doesn't feel like such hard work 😄
