Greetings,
Since July of this year, we have been living in our new single-family home of about 165m² (1,776 sq ft) with 6 rooms. We have one child. The entire house has underfloor heating, and each room has its own thermostat. The temperature in the rooms we use is set to 21°C (70°F). Rooms that are not in use are kept at 12°C (54°F) in frost protection mode. We go to bed around 11 p.m. and get up at 6 a.m., and from Monday to Friday, no one is home after 7:30 a.m. I have programmed the heating to turn on Monday to Friday at 2 a.m., off at 8 a.m., on again at noon, and off at 11 p.m. The first of us comes home with the child at 3 p.m. So far, this has always been sufficient. I have already lowered the water setpoint temperature from 60°C to 50°C (140°F to 122°F) without anyone feeling too cold. At 20°C (68°F) in the rooms, my wife felt it was not warm enough, but at 21°C (70°F), everything is fine.
Do you see any opportunities to improve savings? I considered extending the non-heating periods a bit, but underfloor heating does need some time to warm up. By the way, we heat with liquid propane gas.
Best regards
Manu

I'm not sure if your method is efficient or if it would be more reasonable, since room thermostats are present, to let the heating system regulate itself automatically. Logically speaking, you let the underfloor heating cool down overnight, so what does the heating system try to do in the morning when it turns on again? It tries to quickly reach the 21°C (70°F) room temperature that the thermostat demands. Therefore, it will probably blast at full power, and you likely won’t save much. But as I said, this is just from a logical perspective. Whether it actually works this way technically, a heating specialist would have to comment on that.
