Hello everyone,
since I am not an expert in this field and want to avoid making mistakes, I would like to know your opinion.
We have purchased a newly built house from a developer, and currently the electrician is working on the property. A high-voltage connection is planned for the garage. However, an electric or hybrid car is not planned within the next 1-2 years. Does it make sense to have a wall box installed right away because of the current incentives? At least that is what the electrician suggested.
Or is just running the cable enough for now (is there any funding for that)? How would you proceed?
Thanks for your advice.

They only shut down in case of overload, which normally shouldn’t happen anymore. Unless, in 10 years, all neighbors around you and nearby are driving BEVs as well.

Just checked Westnetz’s FAQs.
They require a separate meter.
And indeed: they have fixed charging time slots!

Currently, we control the electric vehicle charging according to these three time blocks:

3:45 PM – 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM the next day
4:00 PM – 4:45 PM and 7:45 PM – 7:45 AM the next day
4:15 PM – 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM the next day

One time block will be assigned to you. Outside of these switching times, your charging unit will be completely switched off. However, we are already working to make the charging times more flexible.

There will be even more of this. With heat pumps, this is often already standard. Providers don’t want to put expensive peak electricity into a car that stays plugged in all night. Welcome to the new electric world.

So alternatively, install it yourself instead of going through Westnetz. Up to 11kW only requires notification.

That’s quite extreme. I appreciate my 22kW charging unit without any control from the grid operator...

Thank you all!

So I understand that at least preparing for a second meter would be sensible.

The point is – and I’m still looking for a catch – that you supposedly are not obligated to commit to Westnetz. They prepare the eMobility connection (as part of new construction/new connection) completely free of charge, and you allegedly still have the choice regarding the provider…

I thought maybe someone here has just been through the same situation and could provide some clarity 🙂

Well...to me, this rather sounds like Westnetz definitely has the right to deactivate it.
Westnetz now promotes the development of private charging infrastructure for electric mobility. Every new grid connection costs 0.00 € when the customer agrees to network-friendly control of their (including future) charging equipment.
