As the title says, I would like to try using a program myself again. Unfortunately, my previous attempt about 8 years ago was a complete failure (and I once spent some time experimenting with AutoCAD). I don’t even remember which program it was. But I would like something not too complicated, where you can easily and simply plan a floor plan as well as possibly do some 3-D planning.
Thanks in advance

RoomSketcher. Very easy to use but unfortunately not free.

I recommend starting the rough planning with just a ruler, pencil, and paper. This is simply the fastest way. Only when the hand sketch seems to work well should you proceed to work carefully in SweetHome3D.

As long as the goal is to turn a sketch into a model and then simply experiment with furniture (paying attention to the correct sizes) and test different interior design options, SweetHome 3D is actually quite good. Unfortunately, the 3D exterior view often fails due to the lack of an option to create roofs. If the house is going to have no finished attic, there are some tricks, but otherwise, it becomes really difficult...

I find Fl-oor-plan-ner great for floor plans. It’s a web application and free to use. There is an app available (viewing only). Some features, like multiple levels in one project, require a paid upgrade (very affordable). But those are not necessary. You can just create or copy a project for each floor. Unfortunately, you cannot display the entire building in 3D, only individual floors.
