Hello everyone,

How did you install the fascia boards on your roof overhang?

We were offered plastic as an alternative to wood. With wood, I know I have to repaint it every few years. What about plastic? I’m worried it might turn yellow over time or look cheap. So, what did you choose?

We faced the same question and decided on wood. Even though you have to repaint the wood every few years, it still looks beautifully new afterwards.
If the plastic fades due to UV exposure, you can’t just paint over it easily...

Hello.

Personally, I find wood more attractive because plastic looks too artificial to me. (Sometimes it has a greasy shine, which I don’t like.) I like it when the wood grain is visible.

Painting should also be limited since the wood is only partially exposed to the weather.

In the end, it’s a matter of taste and price. However, I can’t imagine plastic being much cheaper than tongue-and-groove profile boards.

Good luck.

Wood is wood, and plastic is plastic! Many are currently considering plastic instead of wood because plastic is said to require less maintenance and doesn’t need to be painted. But I would always choose the natural product – the feel, the touch of nature… always go for the natural option if it is affordable.

Hello,

The boards under the roof overhang are not painted but varnished.

This may not last forever either, but hopefully significantly longer than normally painted boards.

Regards,

Often, not only the cladding boards but also the rafters or purlins are visible. These also need to be painted occasionally, unless they are covered with plastic coating.
