ᐅ Issues with the bathroom contractor even before work has started.

Good evening everyone.
I have a question. About four weeks ago, we visited bathroom showrooms for our house build and selected items for both bathrooms extensively. Unfortunately, we did not receive any list of the selected products from the showroom.
Today, we received an offer from the installer through whom we now want to order the items. The problem is:
1. The offer does not include a detailed list of the components, just modules like: Bathtub including labor €2000. Toilet including labor €1400.
2. The company refuses to provide a breakdown of the components and to list labor costs separately. Their argument is that we only want a shopping list.
3. For deducting the fixed-price components, for example, only €100 is deducted for toilet plus labor.
I feel somewhat taken advantage of here, or is this normal practice?

That doesn’t sound surprising; it was always like that for us too. What kind of organization was it where this was handled that way?
I only know plumbing wholesalers where—regardless of whether the builder is a customer themselves—it is clearly visible which brands, models, and price ranges are being looked at.

Sounds like socialism in a utopian novel.Just the usual practices of the plumbing cartel in this country.
Worse than buying a kitchen.

What kind of organization was that, where it worked like this? The biggest example would probably be Peter Jensen from Hamburg – the top sanitary specialist here in the city.
But as mentioned, there were hardly any suppliers with model names and price tags. You always got those only from your own plumber, who had received the offer from the supplier.

The final price is understandable; the margin for the tradesperson lies between the buyer’s equity and the customer price. If you buy from Reuters.de, you will have the problem of not finding a tradesperson to install the materials for you.
Help, that's not the point at all.
I'm not denying that the contractor wants to earn money. Of course, they should. But I want a transparent quote that clearly shows what I am paying for and gives me the option to swap items between different price ranges. I can’t do that because I’m not even told which products are being offered, or I only receive lump sums that are grouped together.
This neither meets the requirements of a commercially proper quote nor the desired transparency.

Hello,
Currently, tradespeople can unfortunately get away with almost anything, but this is really exceptional.
If he doesn’t want to separate labor and materials, you probably won’t be able to force him unless there is some legal tax regulation that requires it. The keyword here is: "undeclared work."
You can turn his fussing about the material list to your advantage. Inform him in writing (!!!!) that if there is no previously agreed-upon material list, you reserve the right to refuse acceptance and payment for the materials he installs, and he will then be obligated to obtain and install any materials that you request.
Then the toilet, including labor, can well be the 24-carat gold model. After all, you chose it, and it will surely be on his list, which he refuses to show you….
He must confirm this agreement in writing; otherwise, he is not allowed to enter your construction site. (I hope you are the project owner and did not buy from a developer. If the latter is the case, your position will be very weak).
Realistically, you will probably have to contract the work to someone else. It does not seem feasible to work with this guy.
Best regards,
Andreas
