Hello everyone,

I would appreciate your help with a few issues concerning an IKEA Metod kitchen.

I need a tall cabinet to accommodate a refrigerator with a niche height of 103 cm (41 inches) and a freezer with a niche height of 60 cm (24 inches).

I only found this one:

White tall kitchen cabinet with two doors; one door open, interior shelves visible.

METOD
Tall cabinet for fridge/freezer, white, Sävedal white

It has doors that are 120 cm (47 inches) and 100 cm (39 inches) high. Unfortunately, both are much too large for the appliances. There would be large gaps inside the cabinet. Do you have a better solution for this?

The refrigerator has fixed door installation. At IKEA, everything is mounted with an overlay door system. Is it possible to convert the fridge to an overlay door? I’m not sure if the oversized door would be too heavy for the fridge hinges if I attach it as a fixed door directly to the fridge.

Another issue is the filler strips and toe kicks for the white Sävedal fronts. I can’t find them on the website. I don’t see any filler strips at all and only toe kicks for other fronts. They should be available, right?

I’m really grateful for any advice.

Regarding the oven:
You simply buy a cabinet designed for an oven/sink and a 20cm (8 inches) drawer with a front panel.
I assume the cabinet with the 10cm (4 inches) filler panel is meant for cooktops in case you use a thin (1.8cm / 0.7 inches) countertop.

The freezer is probably ventilated from the back. If you install a base cabinet with a countertop above it, that could cause ventilation issues. This can be resolved by

Long stainless steel drain cover with rectangular slots and mounting holes

and an extended-depth countertop.
The installation manual should specify the required clearance and airflow space.

Förbättra is available in ivory white AND "standard white" !

Thanks! I’ve just found it now, you really have to look closely.
Regarding the oven:
You simply buy a cabinet carcass for stove/sink and a 20cm (8 inches) drawer with a front panel.
I assume the cabinet with the 10cm (4 inches) filler panel is intended for cooktops, in case you use a thin (1.8cm (0.7 inches)) countertop.

Good idea. I just thought such a standard cabinet should be available as usual.
The freezer probably has rear ventilation. If you install it inside a base cabinet with a countertop above, that will cause problems. You could solve this by

Long, rectangular stainless steel metal drainage grate for floor drain

and an over-depth countertop.
The installation manual should specify how much space/airflow is required.

The freezer is 55cm (22 inches) deep and needs 5cm (2 inches) clearance at the back. That fits roughly. I also installed it in my previous kitchen inside a base cabinet with ventilation in both the cabinet and countertop.
Nachtvogel installed a 122cm (48 inches) cabinet with a 120cm (47 inches) door here. Maybe with some modification you could manage with a 100cm (39 inches) door.

Great! This is really a very interesting thread.

Because I’m now reading your message...
I bought all the parts separately.
So the carcass at the desired height, then the fronts I wanted – as well as the interior fittings.

I installed four tall cabinets, and there wasn’t any complete set available that matched exactly what I wanted.
But that’s exactly what I like about Ikea... I can mix and match and build however I want.
A bit of DIY skill definitely helps here...

Best regards, Sabine

So, the photos are taken............

Here is the cabinet with the door open.

Open refrigerator full of jars, bottles, and food, fruit in the lower compartment.

You can clearly see that the refrigerator door is still larger than the rest of the fridge.
If I imagine, it would be another 20cm (8 inches) wider.

At the top, the metal trim of the refrigerator extends slightly over the upper shelf.
This can only be seen from inside the refrigerator.

Open refrigerator with jars, yogurt cups, and dairy products on the inner shelf.

At the bottom, the drawer front extends slightly beyond the refrigerator base.

Open kitchen with white refrigerator, green painted wall, and wooden floor.

Many craftsmen could take this as an example of what precise work means.

@sabine: Thank you so much for the photos and the great description in your other thread. That’s really helpful and very kind of you.

I just measured the height of my refrigerator door; it’s almost exactly 95cm (37 inches) tall. However, since the fridge has a fixed door system and the hinges extend about 2.5cm (1 inch) beyond the door at both top and bottom, and need to be covered from the front, the total height is exactly 100cm (39 inches). So, the 100cm (39-inch) Sävedal front/door would just fit.

I would also use a drawer under the refrigerator that slightly overlaps the fridge’s plinth, just like in your photo. So that would work as well, but my next issue is the microwave I planned to place above the fridge. It’s only 38.8cm (15.25 inches) tall, so there would be an additional gap of 6mm (0.25 inch) both below and above the microwave. Do you have any ideas on how to deal with this?
