Good evening,

I registered here because I’m having trouble with my IKEA kitchen.

Yesterday, I finally wanted to install the wall cabinets, and while marking the holes, I noticed that electrical cables run under the mounting bracket of two of the cabinets. I’m considering moving the bracket (the metal angle) to avoid the cables. You can see in the picture how I imagined this.

I was thinking of attaching the bracket from the left side under the cabinet top panel to gain about 4-5 cm (1.5-2 inches) of clearance from the electrical cables. However, I’m not sure how stable this new setup would be. Has anyone tried something like this before or do you have another suggestion for me? Unfortunately, I can’t shift the wall cabinets to the right or left because then they wouldn’t align with the base cabinets. (It’s a small, awkwardly shaped kitchen with very limited options).

Best regards, your stressed and puzzled

Hi Sandra,

the brackets MUST stay on the side panels. This is related to the weight distribution. If you were to screw the brackets onto the top panel, the entire weight would rest on the cam connectors joining the top and side panels. They are not designed for that. One possible solution might be to install a rail under the wall cabinets for them to rest on, or use two brackets per cabinet to help take the load off.

Best regards

Hello Na.,

too bad. I also once considered using a rail, but then I wouldn’t be able to align the cabinets anymore and would have to drill extremely straight, which I find unlikely with my walls. What do you mean by the two brackets?

Hi,

Attach two sturdy brackets at the bottom edges of the exterior. So, screw brackets to the wall, place the cabinet on them, and then secure the cabinet to the brackets, but still fasten the top of the cabinet at the lid. However, these brackets need to be quite strong, ideally with a cross brace to prevent them from possibly collapsing under the weight. Visually, well...

The rail still seems to me like the best solution. You don’t have to drill perfectly straight. The holes for the screws are fairly large and then fine-tuned with a small metal plate, so you have some play. Please check the assembly instructions to see what I mean. Otherwise, maybe use a large, sturdy board or metal rails the size of the cabinets on the wall, screw through from the back, then place the cabinet against it and fasten it at the front with nuts. It’s best to get advice at the hardware store for this.

Everything somehow works… Sometimes you just have to improvise. That’s what I like about Ikea.

Hello Nayla,

I’m a bit disappointed with IKEA, but only regarding the kitchen area.
Adding brackets under the cabinets would be a major setback visually for the kitchen. If the cabinets are mounted on a rail, the problem is that the cabinets would be pushed away from the wall overall (due to the thickness of the rail, which looks unattractive).
I am familiar with how to align the cabinets using IKEA’s system. However, the "straight drilling" referred to attaching a crossbar underneath the cabinets, where the IKEA system doesn’t help much.

Hello,

I just went to the hardware store and bought two metal profiles, which I plan to install crosswise under two wall cabinets each. I was advised to use 8mm by 61mm (about 5/16 inch by 2-1/2 inch) screws along with universal wall anchors. I will give it a try later.

By the way, what is the load capacity of the Faktum wall cabinets? I couldn’t find any information about it on IKEA’s site or by searching online.
