Hello Forum,

Our house was built in 1977. In 1988, we had underfloor heating installed on the ground floor. Since a standard screed thickness was not feasible due to the existing conditions, our heating installer at the time recommended filling the floor with heated quartz sand after laying the copper pipes, and then covering it with two layers of Fermacell boards. This solution has worked perfectly until now.

We are now planning to replace the patio door. Is there a way to stabilize or bind the sand in the relevant area so that it does not run out when the old door is removed? Perhaps someone here has already dealt with a similar situation. Thank you in advance for any ideas or suggestions.
