Hello,

Our house was completed in 2013. A few weeks ago, I noticed wasps in the attic. From the outside, it looks like they are entering on the upper right side under the dormer, where the dormer roof meets the main roof. I haven’t inspected it in detail yet because I’m waiting for it to get cold enough that all the wasps are gone. I assume they have built a nest somewhere there.

I see this as a typical construction defect since that area is clearly not sealed properly. Therefore, I plan to request the developer to carry out repairs, as I believe this is a warranty issue. It’s likely related to the waterproofing, and possibly some wear marks where the wasps have collected material for their nest.

What’s your opinion on this?

Thanks and regards,

Just as a layperson: I’m not sure how much a hole the size of a wasp would count as a construction defect, or if it’s worth the effort. I would probably seal it myself and leave it at that, if I had the chance.

The challenge will be gaining access, and with a new build, I expect the house to be well sealed.
