Hello,
There is a small path running along our property that is often used by walkers.
We have been living in our house for some time now and would like to create some privacy.
In the picture, you can clearly see that our neighbor has already done this successfully.
Unfortunately, our double wire mesh fence is not high enough, so adding a privacy screen here would not be effective. The line of sight from the path goes directly to our terrace.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to create a reasonably visually effective privacy solution here? The gate obviously needs to remain clear, so we are talking about a section of the fence.
Extending the hedge is not an option because the path runs around a garden shed on the right side where lava mulch has been laid.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Best regards

I have a pretty clear idea of what he means. A handful of people here really like to criticize. Possibly something like an "I’ve been around for a long time and I’m allowed to do this" attitude.
But it’s not always helpful or constructive. From my perspective, negative feedback is better for a forum than silence, even if it can sometimes be painful. Personally, I learn something from it. I believe that here in the forum, beyond the factual content, one can really learn in a gentle way how to set emotional boundaries. Or to “find other forum members silly” yet still remain in dialogue for the sake of the topic. Also, I am genuinely very interested in other viewpoints, even if I do not (always) agree with them. (I use “I” so often in this post because I don’t want to fall back on a general “one” and don’t want to appropriate anyone else’s opinion. I hope this is understood.)
Taking the example of calling anthracite-colored windows tasteless: regarding anthracite-colored windows, I only have the opinion that they don’t fit our house and color scheme, and that dark colors don’t appeal to me. Otherwise, they are fashionable, many find them beautiful, some find them tasteless. I appreciate that in this forum all of these opinions can be expressed and communicated. There really is something for everyone. ;-)

It’s not about having been around for a long time.
Many here often express only their own opinion, and I have the same right to do so. That’s why I didn’t want to be a moderator anymore.
If I share a personal opinion in 20 informative posts that might be negative (as in this case, although it’s true that I speak for many when I call it “ugly” – see some neighboring posts or threads), then I am just as entitled to that as anyone else.
I don’t insult anyone here! But Tomtom is allowed to insult me? What kind of morality is that?
Or, are you referring to TomTom, who has been around long enough to insult me and then even add on more?
By the way, TomTom strangely enough has a different view on hedges and fences, not that long ago:

It’s amazing what everyone has against thuja, it’s the same with cherry laurel. Better a green hedge than a fence. So from my perspective, he is someone who either just wants to pick fights or was in a bad mood.
Maybe he has those plants. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

It may be true that he has these things. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’m not in a bad mood; I just get annoyed by people who act as if their opinion is the only correct one. If someone wants a welded mesh fence, they should just go ahead and do it.
If someone wants a city villa, then they should have one and say, “Yes, we have a city villa.”
And likewise, if someone wants gravel in front of their entrance, they should do that. “No, we don’t have that” doesn’t help.
Similarly, people are now criticized for having a perfect lawn. If someone prefers a flower meadow, that’s fine, enjoy it—but I like it when the grass looks like a carpet.
@Bertram100 at least provided a reason, thanks.
I will also plant an evergreen hedge along one property boundary; I’m just not sure yet what exactly it will be. Definitely a mixed hedge, including cherry laurel, because I want it and like it that way.

We’re not above the law here. By the way, my opinion is not the only correct one, but I’m allowed to express it.

Here, Lilly Pillies (Syzygium) are very popular as hedges. They grow quickly, are dense for privacy, and their new leaves have a reddish color. I’m not sure if they are available in Germany. There are several varieties.
