Hello everyone,

We are currently working on the shell of our house and have just poured the floor slab.

Now we are trying to decide how to build the partition wall shown in the plans between the kitchen/dining area and the living room.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas for this? Has anyone implemented something similar and can share pictures?

We have considered several options:
  • whether to build it from masonry or as a timber frame structure,
  • half-height, floor-to-ceiling, or just as a shelf/bookcase,
  • leave it out completely,
  • and so on.

Unfortunately, we are having trouble picturing how it will look in the end.

We need to decide quite soon because the shell builders will start constructing the wall accordingly.

Also, depending on the decision, there would be no underfloor heating installed in that area (in case we later decide to remove the wall).

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Wall, full height to the ceiling. Otherwise, you might feel like you’re in a gymnasium. Karsten

We had a chimney built in a similar location as in your plan (not reaching the full room height). This creates a kind of room divider and also places the chimney centrally within the room. Of course, I don’t know if you are planning for a chimney... and it obviously also needs to fit on the upper floor!

Unnecessary! It doesn’t fit in line anyway.
You can still place a shelf, for example from Ikea (open on both sides).
Or you can always add a drywall partition later.

How is the kitchen supposed to look, or which parts will go where?

Basically, the length and height can already be determined from that.

The furnishing will be as shown in the plan.
Except that the kitchen will not have a counter (so no 3 stools there either).

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference. I say wall, Yvonne says: definitely not wall. What’s your feeling? Not what’s popular, what people do these days, or what’s trendy—but what do you feel? Wall or on? Just act accordingly. Karsten
