Hello.
We are currently considering whether to entrust all the tiling work of our new build to the main contractor. In his quotation, he states a price of 83 euros per m2 (9.2 sq ft) for installing tile formats of 30x60 cm (12x24 inches), 60x60 cm (24x24 inches), and 80x80 cm (32x32 inches), including grouting and base tiles. The cost of the tiles themselves, which we will select later, will be added on top. Is this a fair offer that we should accept? Do you have any experience with this?
Best regards
Peter

At first glance, this seems quite expensive to me. If I remember correctly, our tiler (who is already considered "expensive" but delivers perfect work) charged between 70-80€ per m² (about 6.50-7.50 USD per sq ft). However, that included materials, and the tiles were around 30€ per m² (about 2.80 USD per sq ft) when purchased online. Of course, regional differences play a role, but it still seems rather costly, especially for standard sizes like 30x30cm (12x12 inches).

I find the price for a skilled tiler who works officially and invoices properly certainly not cheap, but currently it is "market standard."

We were offered €110 per sqm (approximately $115 per sq ft) – including tiles up to €35 per sqm (approximately $37 per sq ft), that leaves €75 per sqm (approximately $78 per sq ft) for labor.

I also find that clearly too expensive.
I don’t know exactly what we paid per square meter since I’m not sure about the wall areas. But it definitely couldn’t have been close to 80€ (around $88). More likely in the range of 50-60€ (around $55-$66), as we provided the tiles ourselves.
The tiles were installed by two master tilers, one tiler apprentice, and one laborer.

The work was done one year ago.
Approximately 35 m² (370 sq ft) of 60 x 120 cm (24 x 47 inches) tiles
Approximately 100 m² (1,080 sq ft) of 20 x 120 cm (8 x 47 inches) tiles

I agree: definitely too expensive!
I don’t have the exact price in mind right now, but our tiles were by no means special offers. Some were mosaics, 60cm x 60cm (24in x 24in) and hexagonal tiles, and the installation was cheaper!
And everything was properly invoiced and done by a skilled tiler!

We paid €30 per square meter (about $32 per square meter). The grout and adhesive were provided by the tiler, and we purchased the tiles ourselves (15 x 90 cm / 6 x 36 inches) on account, of course.
