Hello everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of installing the IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet doors with integrated handles as precisely and accurately as possible. Specifically, I want to know the best way to ensure that the doors are adjusted so that the handle recesses are symmetrical and aligned perfectly in a straight line, without any misalignment or uneven gaps. It is especially important to me that the doors are correctly aligned on the cabinet carcass so that the handles line up and the overall visual impression is clean. Are there any special tips, tricks, or tools that have proven useful? I already have the IKEA drilling template, but I am unsure how to avoid mistakes during installation since small misalignments become very noticeable later on. I appreciate all experiences and advice!

Avoid tightening the screws on the hinge attachment too early, as this makes fine adjustment more difficult.I can only confirm that! At first, I had the problem of tightening the screws too much before I had properly aligned all the doors. After that, making adjustments turned out to be really difficult. So, mount loosely first, then gradually fine-tune.
In addition, I used small spacer blocks that I temporarily placed between the door and the frame to keep the gap even. This really helped me achieve a consistent spacing on the handle recesses.
Patience is also important – I always set aside one to two hours at a stretch just for fine adjustments.
When it comes to the orientation of doors with recessed handles, the discussion often focuses on the hinges, but I believe it’s also important to take a closer look at the cabinet carcass. These flat-pack furniture kits from IKEA are generally very well made, but small dimensional deviations caused by assembly or uneven installation surfaces can significantly affect the door positions.
My recommendation: Before installing the doors, check the exact angle and alignment of the cabinets, preferably with a spirit level and a protractor. Only when the base is correctly aligned will the minor adjustment options on the hinges work optimally. Otherwise, you end up adjusting against an uneven surface, which leads to irregular spacing of the recessed handles.

Before screwing, I mark the exact drilling position and check it multiple times with the template. After that, adjust in small increments and only tighten the screws firmly at the end. A tool like a small torque wrench can help ensure the screws are tightened evenly each time.
It is worthwhile to position the Metod door hinges precisely using the supplied drilling template. If you still have issues with the alignment of the handle recesses, consider hanging the doors loosely at first instead of mounting them directly, then adjust them step by step. By measuring and visually checking several times, you can detect and correct errors early on.

I want to achieve the highest possible visual quality, not insist on absolute perfection. This makes me wonder: what exactly defines the maximum in this context? For example, when looking at the heights of lower and upper handle recesses, isn’t a difference of a few millimeters (inches) perfectly acceptable? You always have to consider the perspective of the average observer, who won’t necessarily notice millimeter-level discrepancies. For me, functionality is more important than an imperfect detail that is hardly visible.

For me, function is more important than an adjustable detail that is barely visible. That is often true in practice, but especially with recessed handles, the spacing and alignment are visible and to me represent the showcase of the entire kitchen. Small deviations can quickly make the fronts look cheap – for me, this is not just a functional aspect but a design element that should appear harmonious.
I will try the suggested tips: screwing slowly, measuring carefully, and temporarily removing the doors. Many thanks to everyone for the helpful advice!
