ᐅ Pouring a Concrete Wall as a Retaining Wall – Will It Withstand the Pressure?

moni1512Hi, my plot is located on a slope, so my terrace is lower than the ground behind it. I would now like to support this with gabions and fill the rest since I still have the excavated soil in my garden. This will raise my plot higher than my neighbor’s on the left side. I would like to build a small retaining wall along the boundary, sloping from 0 to about 1.5 m (5 feet) over a length of 12 m (39 feet). This way, my plot would be level at that point. A friend recently suggested digging a trench and then using formwork to pour a concrete wall. Now my question is: will that hold?
Hello Moni
That will hold!
Dig a trench about 80cm (31 inches) deep. Then build a formwork above ground that ends where you want the top edge of the retaining wall to be. Pour concrete into it. Use a mix ratio of 1:4. Then insert reinforcing steel bars. Don’t skimp on that. It will hold.
Oh yes, the wall should be about 25-30cm (10-12 inches) thick.
The costs are not particularly high if you do everything yourself.

It’s 30 cm (12 inches) deep, with 20 cm (8 inches) of gravel and concrete, then the first stone on top (10 cm (4 inches) in the soil, 10 cm (4 inches) above).
Yes, soil on top of that.
