Hello everyone,
The ground floor ceiling will soon be poured, and our electrician asked me where the presence detectors (PM) should be positioned. Unfortunately, the electrician is a bit slow, and I don’t want to rely solely on his opinion, even though his team has completed many KNX installations.
I’ve put some thought into this and would like to share it here for discussion, hoping for your input. The light green circles are meant to give a rough idea of the detection areas. I’m aware that the sensors don’t work through walls, but unfortunately, I don’t have a suitable program to visualize this differently.
For presence detectors, we will use the MDT SCN-P360K4.03 model
1 Presence detector to cover the entrance area, the cloakroom, and the stairway down
2 Presence detector for occupancy in the office
3 Presence detector for occupancy in the guest bathroom
4 Presence detector positioned so it doesn’t detect movement in the hallway, only in the area leading to the living room
5 Presence detector mainly covering the dining area
6 Presence detector covering only the kitchen area
7 Motion detector in the pantry/utility room
What do you think about this positioning?
Best regards.

A PIR sensor will probably not work well in the living room.
I have an HF (TP) sensor there, which works very well for me.
The motion detector (PM) you chose has 4 zones.
Your placement often looks more like a single-zone PM.
Not a problem, but it could be used more effectively.
For example, placing it centrally in the dining room to distinguish different areas.
Where are the PMs for the cloakroom and storage room?
A PM positioned behind you in the office is not ideal.

Thank you for the initial input.
Having the 4 zones is correct, I hadn’t fully considered that.

- For the cloakroom motion sensor, I want to use the motion sensor (1) that is near the front door/stairs. This coverage should be sufficient.
- So, I could place the motion sensor above the office door and deactivate the hallway sensor. This way, I would have coverage at the desk from the side, which should be better, and the sensor won’t trigger with every movement when the door is open if no one is in the office.

- Is one motion sensor sufficient for the living-dining area?

- ... For the storage room camera, I only want to use one motion sensor, I think that should be enough.
In the hallway, alternatively consider installing an MDT BWM55 motion sensor on the wall near level 1. This has the advantage of also being able to control the staircase lighting going upstairs. In the living area, place one centrally for zoning purposes. In the office, it’s questionable whether a motion sensor is needed at all since it’s mostly used for static sitting and there is a central ceiling outlet – I would skip it there. How does it look on the upper floor?
Also, consider KNX smoke detectors. They sometimes overlap in function with motion sensors. At least in the hallway, they are recommended (escape route).
