Hello,

We are unsure about the placement of the utility connection pillar. The electrical service connection will be installed soon.
Maybe someone has a tip (there aren’t many options for such a small plot)…

Thank you very much!

Sometimes it makes sense because you can apply for a regular electrical connection earlier.
That means you have a temporary construction power box, but it’s connected to the pole, allowing you to register a standard electrical connection.
Connecting and disconnecting a temporary construction power supply, and then arranging a permanent connection to the main distribution board, can be more expensive than installing the pole just once.
If the distance from the street to the main distribution board is long, the utility connection costs can be higher because the utility’s standard fee per meter is often greater than the electrician’s rate for wiring from the pole (at the property boundary). However, this depends on the utility company’s policies.

So, if you install a pole, place it near the street in a way that allows a short and safe cable route to the main distribution board.
However, do not position the pole too close to the future driveway to avoid obstructing it.

This is common practice here. A house connection column is installed, and the temporary construction power box is attached to it. When the construction power box is removed, the house connection column is also taken away, and the electrical connection is extended into the utility room to the meter.

Major disadvantage:
You almost pay twice, because for the extension you have to pay the basic fee again, plus the price per meter.

I would also like to know what the purpose of this pillar is. The electrical panel is installed in the utility room, where all cables come underground and frost-free through the outer wall from the street via the utility connection. Or is it different for you?
In some areas, these pillars are left in place.
We were able to choose whether we wanted the connection at the pillar or inside the utility room. A pillar connection means the utility company is only responsible up to that point; everything beyond is your responsibility. You have to install and will be responsible for the wiring afterwards.
A connection inside the utility room means the utility company does the installation, which is usually more expensive than doing it yourself. In this case, the utility company remains responsible.
Of course, utility companies prefer the first option.
We had the connection installed in the utility room, but in some neighboring properties, the pillars are still there.
