Hello everyone,

We are currently implementing the changes to our floor plan through the planning office. Attached you will find the layout of our main bathroom. What do you think—would it be possible to move the bathtub a bit further under the sloped ceiling towards the bottom of the plan? At the moment, it is placed centrally under the 2m (6 ft 7 in) line, and a lot of space is wasted (which will simply be closed off by drywall). I find this quite unfortunate since the bathtub is mostly used only by the children or very rarely in general. Its importance is therefore so low that I am not willing to give up more space for it than absolutely necessary.

The house is 150 sqm (1,615 sqft), and there is another bathroom on the ground floor with a walk-in barrier-free shower.

Maybe there are some experiences you can share—how is your bathtub positioned, and what have your experiences been?

Thanks in advance for your help!

What is the height of your knee wall?

In the other rooms, 1 meter (3 feet), but more in the bathroom (even if the shower/bathtub were not located under the sloped ceiling) – I estimate around 1.30 or 1.40 meters (4 feet 3 inches or 4 feet 7 inches).

Does anyone else have experience or an opinion?

OK thanks. Do you think I could dare to move the bathtub 30 cm (12 inches) towards the knee wall?

Try marking different knee wall heights on the wall and test it out. By the way, a bathtub is installed on the subfloor, not on the screed!
I don’t see any problem in principle if the front edge of the bathtub is at 2.00 meters (6 ft 7 in), but the height reference relates to the screed level, which is actually an advantage.

If the knee wall is 1.30 m (4 ft 3 in) high, you can place the bathtub right against the wall. You won’t be standing in it anyway, and you have to bend down to get in regardless.

Leaving a 10 cm (4 inch) ledge at the back makes this even more practical.

It also depends on your height, but certainly not 2 m (6 ft 7 in). That means on the entry side, you’ll only need space up to your body height. I think you can put it wherever you like. Maybe you can simply decide this during the shell construction phase?
