Hello everyone,

We are currently implementing the changes to our floor plan through the planning office. Attached you will find the layout of our main bathroom. What do you think—would it be possible to move the bathtub a bit further under the sloped ceiling towards the bottom of the plan? At the moment, it is placed centrally under the 2m (6 ft 7 in) line, and a lot of space is wasted (which will simply be closed off by drywall). I find this quite unfortunate since the bathtub is mostly used only by the children or very rarely in general. Its importance is therefore so low that I am not willing to give up more space for it than absolutely necessary.

The house is 150 sqm (1,615 sqft), and there is another bathroom on the ground floor with a walk-in barrier-free shower.

Maybe there are some experiences you can share—how is your bathtub positioned, and what have your experiences been?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I wouldn’t move them any further down. We also installed them below the 2m (6.6 ft) line with a 35° roof pitch, and that works perfectly. The area in front of the knee wall, however, we finished with drywall as a flat storage space up to the bathtub, and then you already have additional storage area.

What would you do with the extra space anyway? Do you really need it? It’s better to have headroom for everyone, since children grow up, or maybe you plan to sell, rent out, or do something else with the property later on.

Thank you for your assessment!
We have a 40° roof pitch.

Good idea to tile a slightly larger shelf behind it – then you could at least place towels there or something similar.

I would like more "walking/standing space" because in the evenings we sometimes have three or four people running around in the bathroom.

However, most of the time, people hardly stand under the sloped ceiling where the bathtub is currently located. Moving the bathtub there would make it much less appealing, not only for your children. It would also look noticeably recessed.

OK, maybe you are right.

Do you happen to have a picture of your bathtub?

Here you go, the bathtub still needs to be plastered:
