Hello everyone,
we are building with Poroton blocks, and I was thinking about running speaker cables inside the living room walls to connect a surround sound system later if the budget allows. After seeing how easily these blocks can break when working with electricians, I’m wondering: Can I fix the thin speaker cables directly onto the Poroton blocks using plaster?

I’m not sure how thick the interior plaster will be, but speaker cables don’t have a very large diameter.

Regards,
Stephan

Hello Bluebyte,

In my opinion, that should work. Interior plaster is usually at least 10 to 12mm (0.4 to 0.5 inches) thick. If you can get gypsum plaster, try to take a small sample beforehand and fix it using the original material. This way, you avoid using different materials and any—albeit likely minor—stress between the plaster and the fixing. If possible, use Excel to document your wiring.

Cutting grooves into Poroton blocks is a very delicate matter, especially if it damages the hollow cavities. With the thin wall thicknesses used in modern construction, every centimeter (inch) counts in my view.
