Deliverer2 Aug 2018 16:02Hello everyone,
Once the house is built, things can get a bit boring quickly...
Therefore – and because of the current weather – I’m thinking about getting a pool.
Are there any pool owners here in the forum? Could you share some advice? I’m trying to put together a list of questions.
What type of pool do I want? Fiberglass shell
How big? About 8 by 3 by 1.5 m (26 by 10 by 5 ft)
In-ground or above ground? In-ground
What’s my budget? 15,000 + own labor + earthworks
Special features? Retrofit counter-current system. Walk-on cover (up to 50 kg (110 lbs)).
Heating? Not for now.
Here are some questions I have:
Where can I find something affordable?
Is my budget realistic?
Are Polish companies reliable and really cheaper?
How much did your pool and equipment cost?
What are the maintenance costs?
Are there differences in filter technology?
Do I need a concrete slab base?
What experiences have you had with pool contractors?
Maybe more questions will come up during the (hopefully lively) discussion. But this should be more than enough to start.
Thanks in advance and happy sweating!

A good fiberglass pool is never cheap; prices start at around 15,000 euros, and that’s just for the pool shell without any equipment, installation, etc. Just Google fiberglass and osmosis... we recently had several discussions with pool builders, and inexpensive pools always have osmosis issues. Have you already looked into polypropylene pools or concrete pools?

Have you looked into polypropylene pools or masonry pools? Masonry is out of the question. Polypropylene is with a liner, right? I find that less attractive.
I'll google the osmosis problem now.
Thanks for the tips!

Deliverer7 Aug 2018 10:33Because the liner pools (steel wall) I have seen so far all have wrinkles somewhere. The seamless, "one-piece" look is important to me.
Also, most liners are said to contain plasticizers and may not last very long.

Also, most liners apparently contain plasticizers and don’t last that long.A concrete pool is not lined with a thin liner (0.6–0.8 mm (0.02–0.03 inches)) but with a thick membrane (1.5 mm (0.06 inches) or thicker) that is welded on site and can last up to 30 years. This is completely different from the liners used for steel wall pools, and you won’t have any wrinkles. You might want to check this out with a pool builder. Also, with a masonry pool, you have complete freedom to design it however you like, including stairs made to your specifications. I wouldn’t rule out this construction method right away; these membranes come in all colors, whether solid or patterned.
