ᐅ Building a Pool at the Same Time as the House - Your Opinions?

Dear community,
Since December 2020, we have been planning our house and reached an agreement with a provider in April. See:
https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/erste-grundrissplanung-auf-karopapier-hang-keller-2-geschosse.37567/
During the planning, the topic of a pool was always in the back of our minds and was discussed several times. Our initial feeling was "let’s build it right away," which over weeks and months shifted to "preparation now and realization later" for the time being. Now our direction is changing again, and we are researching construction and maintenance costs. Since it is difficult to assess the reliability of the various sources, or they do not align with our idea, we would very much appreciate feedback from the community here.
We are looking at a pool size of 8 x 4 meters (26 x 13 feet) without a counter-current system but with an electric cover. We are not entirely sure about pool heating. The technical room is located in the basement near where the pool will be installed.
We keep telling ourselves that building the pool now would be much cheaper because pool and house work could run in parallel, creating synergy effects (economic and legal aspects included 😉 ) regarding earthworks, foundation, crane use, and technology.
Our questions are:
1. In general: What do you consider to be the best type of pool for our project? We know the pros and cons of various types but cannot come to a final conclusion.
2. How much would you estimate the pure construction costs of your “preferred option” under the above conditions?
3. How large do you estimate the price difference between “building now” and “doing it in xx years” to be?
Thank you. 🙂

Hausbauer474716 Jun 2021 22:18We spoke with a pool builder who said that you would still sink slightly into the water when stepping on a pool cover, with an adult naturally more than a child. We also have three small children, so a pool cover would probably not be the best solution for me compared to a glass cover placed above. The glass cover would also have the added benefit of keeping dirt out and maintaining the water temperature. The pool cover does this to some extent as well, but probably less effectively than the fully sealed cover.

soneva201216 Jun 2021 22:31We have already tested the pool cover (well, actually my husband at over 80kg [176 lbs]!) and although you do get wet feet, you don’t sink much if you have installed an edge. I still wouldn’t risk it with very small children, as they can drown in just a few centimeters of water. But by the time we move in, the youngest child will be over 4 years old. Then it’s enough that they can’t fall into the water. (If it’s open, they would never be outside alone anyway).
A glass cover definitely has its advantages, but I don’t think they look good! The pool will be right next to the kitchen/dining area, so I want the cover to look simple. But of course, safety is priority number one!

Chris251117 Jun 2021 11:38I’m joining the conversation here. I’m also from Lower Franconia (around Aschaffenburg). We have finished building our house and are now planning the outdoor area. The topic of a pool is only coming up for us now.
That sounds very interesting. Could we discuss this further?

We spent about 10k on our PP pool with stairs, measuring 7 x 3 m (23 x 10 ft), including the technology (which is not in a shaft but in the garden shed next door) as well as the above-mentioned work, and we are happy with it.

That already sounds very interesting. Can we discuss this? Unfortunately, it's too late. You could or should have planned this much earlier. Things like wall penetrations, water supply and drainage, heating—for example, shared with the house instead of installing a separate unit, keeping all technical equipment frost-free inside the house...
Still, we’re happy to help. 🙂

Chris251117 Jun 2021 13:05I have no more space for technical equipment inside the house, but plenty in the garden. 🙂
