Hello. Does anyone have experience with prefabricated pools and can share their insights? What do you think about ready-made pools?

Our pool installer is very much in favor of prefabricated pools and apparently installs mostly these nowadays, rarely the masonry pools made of concrete with liner. The price differences aren’t that significant either.

We haven’t decided yet and look forward to exchanging experiences.

Best regards

We have had a concrete pool with just a coating for 60 years—no liner, because I don’t like them.

Stainless steel pools are also great, but the edges can get very hot in the sun.

If the price difference is not significant for you, I would lean towards a concrete pool. I suspect the profit margin in the prefab segment is higher for him than with concrete work.
A properly constructed concrete pool will last forever; the plastic liners might only last 20 years… 30 years?
I consider the concrete option to be of higher quality, and individual customization is possible.
I have no experience with stainless steel—I am currently building a concrete pool with a liner.

Unfortunately, we don’t have practical experience yet since we are still building, but after a lot of consideration, we decided on a compass ceramic pool (pre-fabricated shell).

The decisive factors for us were the significantly lower price (a difference of $12,000) and the fact that the liners in this option were sometimes already in poor condition at some showrooms (depending on the manufacturer; we also saw some great pools with liners). Upon asking, these liner samples were only 5 to 7 years old (faded, wavy, etc.).

However, if the price had been the same (make sure to ask exactly what the costs for excavation and concrete work are), I probably would have still chosen the liner option for the simple reason that I am only 1.58 m (5 ft 2 in) tall, and all pre-fabricated pools without exception have a depth of 1.50 m (5 ft). For comfortable standing, I would need about 1.30 m (4 ft 3 in) depth 🙂 But for a $12,000 difference, I’ll just stand on my tiptoes or figure out another solution 🙂

Well, that’s a topic for @rick2018 🙂

High heels or platform shoes?

There are many ways to reach the goal. There are huge differences in price and quality.
Often, filters that are too small and unsuitable pumps are sold or installed.
Filter balls are still commonly used.
Water needs to be moved and filtered long enough. The warmer the water, the more filtration is required.
With the right technology, the effort can be minimized (dosing systems, automatic backwashing, pool cleaners, etc.).
Stainless steel pools made from V4A steel are quite literally the top class. There are not many companies I would trust in this area. Price-wise, they are also far from ready-made pools.

Is the price difference only due to the pool shell or also other equipment installed? Today, it is essential to install a variable-speed pump. It pays off within two years and also offers more options. The control unit should be able to manage it.
