Hello,

we are currently planning the construction of our single-family home, and until now, it was decided that we would install hardwood flooring. During a vacation where we stayed in a holiday apartment, we encountered polyurethane (PU) floors. The flooring felt very comfortable and looked great.

What particularly appealed to us was the "soft step," ease of maintenance, and the absence of joints. We are now considering using this type of flooring throughout the entire house.

Does anyone know of good suppliers in the Munich area, or a way to view large surface samples? Has anyone installed such an industrial floor in their home, and are there any potential issues we might not be aware of?

Thanks, regards Andreas

Hello,
what do you mean by PU floor? Is it a type of coating?
But it’s not vinyl flooring, right? (These come as glue-down or click-lock like laminate)

Hello,
we installed an (optically similar) epoxy resin floor or coating in the basement. The main advantage of PU (polyurethane) is its better UV resistance, which was not important for us in the basement and with the light gray color.
However, I would not use epoxy resin in living areas for several reasons.

PU is significantly more expensive, at least if you install it yourself. Since labor costs usually make up the larger part when hiring a contractor, this disadvantage may be less significant in that case.
The coating is applied at about 3mm (0.12 inches) thickness, but can be thicker depending on the condition of the substrate. Industrial suitability does not necessarily mean it’s suitable for residential use. In a warehouse, appearance matters less than durability and ease of maintenance. If the floor quickly shows marks or scratches, that is not an issue in an industrial setting, but in a home, resistance to acids and oils is less important.

We are very satisfied with epoxy in the basement. I have no experience with PU, but it should work at least as well. If cost were no issue, I could definitely consider a white PU floor in the living areas.
