I am very sensitive to pollutants and need to ensure a healthy indoor climate for health reasons. Currently, I am looking for parquet flooring with as few pollutants as possible and have already done some research. A specialist retailer recommended "Meister parquet walnut" to me because it is almost untreated.

I would prefer oak parquet but am concerned that it might have been treated with ammonia to achieve this smoked effect. Can anyone recommend pollutant-free oak parquet?

Hello Valerie,

You don’t have to choose smoked oak flooring; there are many dark hardwoods that have not been chemically treated beforehand.
By the way, any remaining ammonia after airing out in the hardwood is bound within the wood itself.
Still, you could opt for another dark wood such as walnut, cherry, or wenge.

Thermally modified wood, also known as thermo wood, is also an option; this is wood that has been heat-treated and, simply put, darkens through a caramelization process.

I’m bringing up this topic because my husband has an allergy. The doctor also recommended installing a pollutant-free hardwood floor. Now we are, of course, looking for one.

My research showed that untreated natural wood is quite good. Now I’m also looking for a company that can advise us.

Does anyone here have any suggestions for who can do this?

My son has been suffering from pollen allergies for years. Therefore, it is essential to drastically reduce chemical substances in the house as well. We are also interested in pollutant-free hardwood flooring. For this reason, I am looking for a company that offers such products. I have not yet found a suitable one in Switzerland, so now I am searching in Germany.

If I were you, I would visit a specialist retailer for hardwood flooring. They either know a company that offers pollutant-free flooring or can put you in touch with one.

I find it hard to believe that such products are not available here.
