Seilinger5 Jun 2025 16:47Hello everyone
I recently tried out the POÄNG armchair from IKEA at a friend’s place and found it quite comfortable at first glance. Now I’m wondering if such an armchair is also suitable for longer TV sessions or reading. Does anyone here have a POÄNG armchair at home for a longer time and can share whether it remains comfortable even after several hours of use?
I’m also interested in how stable the chair is, especially when you sit down with more force or lean back.
Thanks in advance for your experiences!

I have owned many different chairs, including high-end ones, but the Pöang is simply outstanding in this price range. I also recommended it to my son, and he bought a nice version, I believe with a black frame and brown leather. I myself had one even 30 years ago, the black frame with bright red leather. Great piece and extremely comfortable.

NeuerAlter5 Jun 2025 18:13The Poäng armchair can be found in many homes, probably because it offers a distinctive seating experience. When it comes to long TV sessions or reading periods, the comfort often remains consistent, even after several hours—provided you prefer a slightly flexible, not too soft seating feel. The springy construction supports the back effectively without the cushion quickly losing firmness. However, some users notice that the seat cushion softens over time, which, with frequent use, may require purchasing a replacement cushion after a few years.
Regarding stability: the construction is designed to be sturdy, even if you sit down with some momentum or lean back firmly. The high backrest and slightly springy frame absorb movements well without the chair tipping over or feeling unstable. It is important that the chair stands on a flat surface and is properly assembled to prevent any wobbling. Users with a bit more weight generally find the POÄNG to be solid.
For longer evenings and extended reading sessions, the chair is quite suitable, as long as your personal preference is not for very firm padding and you like the slightly rocking seat surface. With regular use, it is advisable to occasionally tighten the screws and keep an eye on the cushion. In terms of price-performance ratio, this model is attractive compared to many other chairs in this category, which probably explains its widespread popularity.
Have a cozy and pleasant evening.

Have you noticed any specific weaknesses regarding the stability or overall durability of the Poäng? I am especially interested in whether the wooden frame starts to give way or creak over time—or if the construction truly remains solid and durable in this respect.

I can’t provide personal experience on that either, except that this type of shaped wood is generally quite durable, as long as you don’t "plop down" heavily and overstress the "spring" element.
