Hello,

During our house construction, we received pleated blinds for a few minor defects from the builder, which were delivered to us by his subcontractor responsible for the windows.

The window installer simply used the construction measurements he took on-site while manufacturing the windows. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out as expected—the pleated blinds (all 4 pieces) are each about 3-4 mm (0.1-0.15 inches) too wide. As a result, the blinds no longer fit inside the frame in front of the glass but are positioned mostly in front of the windows. When opening the windows (all four are floor-to-ceiling patio windows), the blinds almost hit the wall (only the baseboard stops them).

Today, I saw the window installer passing by and called him over. He inspected the situation and said this is normal. However, online sources always emphasize that exact measurements must be taken and that every millimeter counts.

What do you think? Is this normal? Please see the attached photos. (Detailed shots left/right without the pleated blinds being moved)

The pleated blinds cost around €800 (which the construction company is paying).

Hello,
we have several pleated blinds that are partly already about 10 years old, but they all fit exactly in the glazing bead, meaning directly in front of the glass. They need to be about 1-2 mm (0.04-0.08 inches) narrower; otherwise, they won’t fit into the gap. It doesn’t look quite right with yours...

Yes, I completely agree.

Aldi and Lidl will also have pleated blinds next week.
Here, the pleated blinds extend well beyond the glass, so they basically rest on the frame, not the glass. But of course, these are also inexpensive pleated blinds.
I was considering buying some and had already looked into the size and installation.

How do you attach the pleated blinds?

Clamping strips in the frame? Does the window remain airtight then?

Drilling? Even with new windows?

Does adhesive hold?

They simply took the wrong measurement.
