Hello everyone,

Next week, our plasterer is coming, and I have a few questions I need advice on.

1. Transition between plaster and drywall

I have a wall where I had to cover a corner with drywall (diamond boards). I left the drywall slightly extending past the corner. Now, my plasterer wants to plaster only up to the edge of the board. I’m concerned that the difference between the plastered wall and the drywall will be very noticeable if we don’t wallpaper. Has anyone experienced this or has pictures of how it looks afterward? If I plaster first and then apply painter’s fleece wallpaper, will this difference still be visible?

2. Garage ceiling

For energy efficiency reasons, the entire ceiling had to be insulated with 6cm (2.4 inches) Styrodur insulation boards. I glued the panels with bonding mortar. Now I want to be sure and fix the boards again with insulation fixing anchors (mushroom anchors). Will this be sufficient for plastering afterward, or do I need to take additional measures?

3. Wedi boards

I’ve learned that plaster should not be applied directly on gypsum boards. Does anyone know if Wedi boards can be plastered over?

Thanks for your help

The drywall panels needed to be skim-coated. The joint between the masonry wall and the drywall must be well sanded, then you can proceed with tiling. However, the spot where the drywall meets the masonry wall must be finished as an intentional gap because it will crack anyway. So, cut and insert fiberglass mesh tape, stick a molding strip over it with acrylic sealant, and then the crack won’t be visible later. Alternatively, you can use a beech wood strip that you paint. You need to cover that area somehow to hide the crack that will appear. Karsten
