Hello everyone,

we would like to plaster over the exterior roller shutter boxes on our extension so that the boxes are not visible in the end.

The box depth according to the manufacturer is 12 cm (5 inches), and there is an additional plaster angle mounted on it. So I estimate that the total depth of the box is about 13.5 cm (5.3 inches).

The box will be mounted directly onto a wooden beam (our extension is built using a timber frame construction method).

How thick does the insulation next to the box need to be in order to plaster over the box properly? Would 12 cm (5 inches) insulation be enough?

Sorry if this is a really basic question, but I honestly have no idea how much insulation I need to use on the extension to be able to cover the 13.5 cm (5.3 inches) box under the plaster.

Thank you very much in advance.

Good luck

Here is a sketch to help you better understand what I mean. 🙂

I’m referring to the yellow-marked area:
How thick should the insulation be so that the box can be fully plastered over and is no longer visible from the outside?
