Hello everyone,
I have a wall in my basement that I would like to cover. At the moment, the masonry is visible. Would it be better to plaster it, or is it easier to install drywall panels? Which option requires less work and costs less?

I believe that plastering takes more time, but I still plastered my basement because it looks neat and well-finished.

Hello,
plastering requires more effort initially, but it’s worth it because it looks much nicer. Also, the room becomes smaller if you install a drywall partition, since you first need to build a substructure with battens. Plastering is messier but results in a better appearance.

A plastered wall simply looks better, and it’s not as difficult as it might seem. Sure, it creates more mess, but in the end, it looks nicer than a drywall (plasterboard) wall. Also, it’s harder to hang anything on drywall because you always need special anchors.

Hello,
even a drywall (gypsum board) wall requires work and creates mess, because the battens underneath need to be fixed to the wall first. Additionally, gaps form between the panels, which you have to fill with joint compound. If this is not done properly, it will always be visible. I would also prefer plastering in that case!

There are also adhesives or something called setting plaster, I believe, which you can use to firmly attach the boards. Drywall is probably easier, but plastering looks nicer...
