I have a clinker brick fireplace at home, but it already looks quite dirty. Can I simply plaster it with chimney plaster, or do I need to consider anything else?

Please provide more details first on whether the fireplace is open or closed. 🙄

So if it is open, definitely cover the heat-exposed areas with fire-resistant material; otherwise, find out which plaster is resistant to extreme temperature changes.

Clean the bricks thoroughly and definitely use a bonding primer. I believe gypsum plaster is well suited for these temperature fluctuations.

Sorry for the late reply, I just got home from work. It is an open fireplace. Thanks for the quick responses.

Best regards, Duke!

There is stove plaster available that can be used directly, with a quartz-based primer underneath. It should then hold properly. After a few days, heat it up thoroughly and check if it holds. Otherwise, get back in touch here.
