Hello everyone,

We built our house in 2018 and are now starting to work on the outdoor area. I have already looked into the topic (I mainly used a professional landscaping book as my source of information).

It concerns the terrace area. About 30cm (12 inches) of mineral gravel needs to be filled in (plus bedding and paving, which together make up the height up to the underside of the terrace doors). At the moment, the clean fill layer in the form of recycled concrete gravel is visible, which was laid as the base for the basement floor slab.

Now to my question: I read that the ground should be excavated down to the subsoil (the natural ground) and that the slope should be created at that level. Of course, I don’t know if a slope was already made below the clean fill layer. Should I remove the clean fill layer and rebuild from the bottom up, or am I possibly overthinking this?

Best regards,
