Hello,
we are planning to replant our garden next year and I have a general question: what do you all usually plant?
Best regards

Hello,
for us, it’s purely a comfort garden, meaning no vegetables, just a few flowering plants, and a large lawn area. The exception is our herb corner, where we have a stone spiral, for example, with thyme, sage, and basil. Besides that, we also have a few large container plants that serve as a kind of boundary for the terrace.

For me, it will be potatoes, leeks, garlic, zucchini, and pumpkin, kiwi, and in summer also tomatoes and cucumbers.
...First of all, sorry for digging up an old thread 🙂
But: How successful is your kiwi harvest? Do you have mini kiwis or the regular, large-fruited kiwis? What is the location like?
The reason I ask is that just yesterday we planted a mini kiwi, including a male plant, on the house wall facing southwest. There is still space for a large-fruited variety, but we have some doubts about whether it will do well.
We took over a kiwi vine in the rental house. No idea how old it is. It climbs up the back of the garage and extends all the way to the neighbor's side. Overall, it’s about 4-5 meters (13-16 feet) wide and equally tall.
If it produces fruit (last year’s harvest failed due to a late frost in early April), it yields tons of fruit. We honestly have no clue what to do with all of them. They taste good and have the familiar supermarket size, but the flesh isn’t quite as green.

We pruned the shoots last year. Both plants are in full sun.
My father cultivates kiwis. Under a pergola, in Rhineland-Palatinate (not in a wine-growing region, it is too cold for that). The two or three female plants (plus one male) produce over one hundred kilograms (over 220 pounds) in good years, size similar to those in supermarkets, sometimes even better in taste. However, he has to harvest them unripe and let them ripen in the cellar because the summer is too short there.
