ᐅ Planning the Renovation of the Terrace and Main Entrance

Hello everyone,

I need some brainstorming regarding our terrace/pathway leading to the carport.

I will try to explain the situation as clearly as possible.
First, our house entrance stairs need to be replaced. Since we want the terrace to be level with the ground, we will probably have to add 2 more steps.
The idea was to avoid having the staircase go straight ahead (because with a total depth of 5 m (16 feet) for the terrace, it would take up too much space) and instead plan it to turn to the right.

Here you can see two options.

The downside is that the path to the carport gets longer, or you would have to walk in the opposite direction first.
I hope the pictures make this clear.

Garden with lawn, bed on the left, bench on the right, green-framed wooden shed in the background.

Backyard with orange wall, wooden bench, garden, and blue tarp cover.

The green border marks the "entrance" to the carport. This protective panel will be removed, while the other two elements will remain.

We are now a bit uncertain about what makes the most sense and what doesn’t. Perhaps someone has a completely different idea or some good arguments to share.

Depending on the stairs, we need to accommodate our existing garden table (2 m x 0.9 m (6.5 ft x 3 ft)) plus chairs on the terrace, which measures 6.7 m x 5 m (22 ft x 16 ft).

Outdoor courtyard with chalk rectangles: 1 left, 2 middle with arrow pointing right, 3 right; garden behind.

The table and chairs will remain there all year because we are also planning a roof covering for the terrace.
Until now, the table was located at option 1.
The white line shows where the terrace is meant to end (plus the roof covering). However, the cars are currently parked elsewhere, so the table was not in the way.

I would be very grateful for any ideas or advice.

Best regards,
Merymery

I would build the terrace with a step-free exit from the patio door. Then you can add stairs to the garden as you like.
Also, a small descent to the outbuilding (salmon-colored shed) – like a small cellar stairway. I find that much more attractive than having to go down several steps just to get out of the house.

Thanks for the idea. A friend of mine had suggested that as well...
However, I would need to take some measurements first, because I think then we wouldn’t be able to add a roof covering. The space between the floor and the terrace roof would be too tight.
But I haven’t consulted a professional yet.

Another possible issue might be that the shed houses an oil heating system with three large 2000 liter (530 gallon) tanks. Although those will have to be dismantled anyway if the heating is ever replaced...

I need to think this over again. Thanks for the idea regardless.
