Hello,
since I am moving next week and need to act quickly (and also keep costs low), I am currently planning my first IKEA kitchen. Over the past few days, I have already found many helpful tips here in the forum, but now I have a few questions.
1. I deliberately did not start the kitchen run directly at the tall platform because otherwise you would walk straight into the cabinet when entering the door (even though the door opens outwards). I would extend the platform up to the first cabinet. Is that possible? It would look best if the kitchen were 98cm (39 inches) high, so the countertop could extend over the platform. Are there suitable feet or plinths for that?
2. The sink should be installed at a working height of 1.20m (47 inches) (I am 1.95m (6 ft 5 in) tall). Could I build a platform from chipboard? Are there 36cm (14 inch) high feet available at the kitchen store? Would the plinth then need to be custom built?
3. The left cabinet with the refrigerator should also be that tall. Can a built-in tall cabinet be shortened accordingly? Would a ventilation grille be needed in the back of the countertop? Alternatively, could I place the oven there and move the refrigerator to the right?
Sorry for the long text and many questions, but I would really appreciate any suggestions and tips.
Best regards,
Jürgen.

IKEA-Experte8 Nov 2015 20:01Would the entire row need to be raised the same way as the small sink area is raised too high?
If there is a 20cm (8 inches) high wall directly next to the cooktop, it becomes impractical because, for example, a pan handle only has space towards the front.

Would raising the entire row be just as problematic as the sink section being too high? Maybe when stirring pots 😕
Then I would have a 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) raised work surface on the left.
Edit: If I raise everything to 1.20 meters (4 ft), I would have to move the outlets and probably change them back again at some point...

IKEA-Experte9 Nov 2015 17:16According to the plan, there is an additional 20 cm (8 inches) of space next to the refrigerator. Why not have the refrigerator, a 60 cm (24 inch) cabinet, a 40 cm (16 inch) cabinet, the stove, and another 40 cm (16 inch) cabinet?
If having everything at the same height is not practical for you, I would prefer to install a built-in refrigerator in the 140 cm (55 inch) high cabinet and keep the rest at 100 cm (39 inch).

Thank you for your patience!
I actually like the idea of having different worktop heights:

By the way, I had drawn the platform too high (10cm (4 inches) too high). So the right part will stay at the standard height.
I just don’t want everything too close to the room doors, although in the old kitchen it’s actually the same and nobody minds. Tomorrow morning I’ll have a second pair of eyes on site, then we’ll decide how wide the whole run will be, and then I’ll be at IKEA in Frankfurt at 10 a.m....
Thanks again for your help. I’ll share photos once everything is finished...

According to the plan, there is still 20cm (8 inches) of space next to the refrigerator. Why not refrigerator, 60cm (24 inches) base cabinet, 40cm (16 inches) base cabinet, stove, 40cm (16 inches) base cabinet?

IKEA-Experte9 Nov 2015 22:15Everyone has their own preference, but avoid raising the countertop directly next to the cooktop, otherwise the countertop edge next to the cooktop opening will become too thin.
This is how it turned out now. The refrigerator cabinet will still be made lower.
Unfortunately, I forgot to buy the side panels. The IKEA planner didn’t notice either. Without them, the front doesn’t look that good, I think.
And of course, I have one more question:
When installing the countertop - for example, at the sink - should it overhang on the right and left sides, be flush (then it would fit exactly), or is that a matter of personal preference?
Best regards, Jürgen.
