ᐅ Planning kitchen appliances: How to approach it. The market is overwhelming.

Hello everyone,

I have an appointment at the kitchen studio next Saturday and I’m preparing for it. Specifically, I’m looking for the appliances I want to have later in the kitchen. I’ve been researching a lot from brands like Neff / Siemens, Miele, Bora, etc., but I’m not making much progress.

For example, the current selection at Siemens looks like this:

Dishwasher IQ300 SN636X03MD
Oven IQ700 HB634GBS1
Microwave IQ500 HF15M264
Cooktop with integrated downdraft extractor EX801LX34E
or
2 x Cooktop IQ700 EX375FXB1E with extractor IQ700 LF16VA570

(The cooktop with integrated downdraft is the only fixed requirement, unfortunately I don’t have any influence on that ^^)

I actually value quality, energy efficiency, and a balanced price-performance ratio. But how can I find out if what you pick is really good? Or if there are possibly cheaper but equally high-quality products from other manufacturers. For example, the cooktop with integrated downdraft extractor from Miele—according to the catalog, it’s cheaper but just as good or even better?

How do you approach this?

What’s with everyone and Nobilia? Nobilia is generally considered to be on the lower end of quality in kitchen studios. When I talk about kitchen studio kitchens, I mean brands like Nolte, ProNorm, Häcker, Schmidt, or Leicht kitchens…
But take a look at the manufacturer ranking—Nobilia is rated higher than Nolte or ProNorm, or Häcker’s standard line (Häcker Classic/ClassicArt), and is on the same level as Schmidt.

Oh, honestly? What good is the best ranking if Nobilia doesn’t even offer a 78cm (31 inches) cabinet carcass? If you want a countertop height of 95cm (37 inches), you have to use a baseboard taller than 15cm (6 inches)... That’s really not ideal...

What’s the use of the best rating if Schmidt doesn’t even offer a 720mm (28.3 inches) cabinet? Either way, you can’t achieve a worktop height of 860mm (33.9 inches) then.

I don’t understand, a 78cm (31 inch) cabinet body plus a 6cm (2.5 inch) plinth and a 2cm (0.8 inch) countertop equals, for me, an 86cm (34 inch) working height...

You mean a 4cm (1.6 inch) countertop and a 4cm (1.6 inch) baseboard? Aside from the fact that both 4cm (1.6 inch) and 6cm (2.4 inch) baseboards are nonsense.

I like to use them as a comparison to IKEA when I want IKEA to look good.

I partly financed my studies by working as a kitchen fitter, so I’m familiar with some kitchens.
