Hello everyone,
we have finally finished planning our kitchen.
Now I am thinking about the layout of the front side of the island:
Currently planned as 80-80-80, with the cooktop and downdraft extractor flush-mounted.
Each cabinet has 3 drawers: two shallow ones and one deep one at the bottom. Below the cooktop is a panel.
My concerns: Where should the oil and vinegar go? In an upper cabinet above the sink?
Placement of pots, pans, and lids?
Right now, all pots are crammed into a 60cm (24 inches) drawer, all pans are stored in the oven (which is annoying), and all lids are in another 60cm (24 inches) drawer next to the potatoes and onions.
ALTERNATIVE island layout:
100-100-40
Two 100cm (40 inches) cabinets, each with two shallow drawers on top and one deep drawer below.
A 40cm (16 inches) pull-out pantry cabinet for oil and vinegar.
This would mean less space for the cutlery drawer, but I would have room for oil and vinegar bottles directly in the island.
Dishes will also be stored in the island.
It is a Netxt125 kitchen, if that is relevant.
I am attaching the planning photos and would really appreciate your opinions.

Do you have a final plan for the house now? Yes, the window area in the living space of the basement was enlarged.

I find a waist-high window in the storage room quite extravagant. It’s an exit door, just a few steps to the trash shelter, and a direct route from the parking area to the house for bringing in groceries.

The only thing that reminds me of an American kitchen is the refrigerator. Sometimes dreams just remain dreams.

That’s great. And it really looks very good – I like it!
Before we start addressing your questions, you could wrap up your thread here and show us the results of the tips we gave.

I would definitely avoid installing the cooktop in the center and place it more towards the edge. That way, you get a proper countertop workspace. Right now, you only have small fragmented areas here and there, but nothing continuous.I agree with you! I actually like working to the right of the stove. Problem: 1. To the left of the cooktop (when standing between the counter run and the island) the KitchenAid should have its permanent place. Baking supplies will be stored in the tall pull-out cabinet behind it—short work distance. The children’s learning tower can always be placed between the wall and the island.
2. When taking something out of the oven or fridge, you can immediately place it on the countertop left of the cooktop.

Leave the vinegar/oil visible next to the cooktop or store them in a tall drawer. The kitchen is designed with aesthetics in mind. It would be practical to have a tall drawer near the cooktop beneath the countertop. You have everything organized in a classic stacked way: bottom tall, then medium, and small drawers on top.The view of the front side of the island doesn’t really matter to me. Practicality comes first. I still need to check the height of the lower drawers in the island and see if vinegar and oil bottles will fit. Currently, in the 60cm (24 inch) cabinet we have two tall drawers and one shallow drawer, and the tall drawers don’t fit oil bottles. Does anyone happen to know the drawer heights for next125?

The 100cm (39 inch) drawers hold a lot, but a second person cooking will have to step well to the side when someone opens the drawer. You need to consider how practical that is.I work alone in the kitchen about 90% of the time, so that wouldn’t be a problem.

I definitely wouldn’t plan four stools in a row—when would four people voluntarily sit side by side? It doesn’t make for a very enjoyable social setting.Originally, a niche for two stools was planned. But the four stools were actually included for aesthetic reasons. Probably only two will be used.

Honestly, I think you could get more out of the kitchen (better organized workspace, stools not in a row, dishwasher installed at counter height). The layout (e.g., fridge or wall cabinets) is always a matter of taste.I had thought about the dishwasher being installed at counter height. But somehow, I’m not that keen on it compared to the tall cabinet to the right of the sink area with internal pull-outs and a shelf for the toaster.
What do you mean by the layout of the fridge and wall cabinets?

That's right! It was just done now.No, definitely not. There is a social consensus regarding interpersonal behavior; the involvement and assistance from people here with your "project" deserved to be met with appropriate respect.

Bertram1001 Nov 2024 06:56By the layout with the refrigerator and wall cabinets, I meant that it is a matter of personal preference. I don’t find such a large, freestanding refrigerator visually appealing in the kitchen and would have chosen a built-in version. The double-row wall cabinets make the look a bit crowded, and I would remove them unless you really need the extra storage.
Placing a trash bin directly under the countertop would also work. I find the elevated dishwasher (together with the trash under the countertop) great in my kitchen. Much better than a built-in oven installed at a higher level.

MachsSelbst1 Nov 2024 13:34There is definitely plenty of space for the usual canned ravioli, ready-made mixes, and so on in the pantry.
Otherwise... a kitchen of this price range and size with only one oven, no warming drawer, no built-in coffee machine, no microwave? No built-in radio? No wine fridge? No wine rack? Not a single power outlet near the sink?
That’s why you need the large storage room for the canned ravioli. It’s for reheating, not cooking...
