Hello everyone,

We are sure that sooner or later we will want to have a pool in the garden. It makes sense to do the excavation and the slab foundation during the house construction, as it becomes very difficult to get large machines into the garden afterwards.

For cost reasons, however, we would like to build the pool only in the coming years.

Is there a way to cover the excavation, or how would you handle this?

Does anyone here have experience with this?

Hello, and then leave the excavation open for years?

As always, it ends up costing more later, and you’re digging up an already landscaped garden. Either you can afford it or you can’t.

Forget it. I know the pool preparations in the basement of relatives. The pool was planned, excavated, and concreted. Then the money ran out for further construction. Since the late 1970s, the room has been used as a storage or party room. When the money for the pool was available, they no longer completed it. Because in public facilities, after swimming or water aerobics, people usually go next door for socializing.

How wide is the passage to the garden? A small excavator can get through almost anywhere, and the excavation material can be removed using a wheelbarrow. It takes a bit longer, but then you can do everything in one go if you actually want to build the pool.

Hi, we installed our pool right away when the house was finished and the landscaping work began.

In my opinion, you cannot leave an excavation with a concrete slab open for years. At least we were advised against it because the walls may give way and collapse. And honestly... do you usually have 40-50k left after two or three years? It’s better to install the pool immediately and include it as part of the landscaping since the landscaping will be disrupted anyway during the pool construction.

Important points:

- Location of the heat pump (distance to neighbors, noise level) and location of the equipment (which also produces noise). Plan both with a suitable and not too long distance from the pool. We have a kind of second garden shed. The equipment can also be planned in the basement.

- Drainage! For backwashing processes or possibly emptying the pool. Confirm whether you are allowed to connect to the sewer system.

- Cooperation with a local pool builder. They can assess what makes sense to plan in advance. Without a professional, it’s hardly manageable, even if some DIY providers like to suggest otherwise.
