ᐅ Roof drainage system located on the interior side, behind a continuous parapet wall

Our current plan includes an internal roof drainage system. The drainage is located behind a continuous parapet, as shown in the photo.

Our future roofer strongly advises against this because if the gutter is damaged, moisture could enter the interior of the house.

What are your thoughts?

Loosely based on engineering studies: design systems and processes to be as robust as possible. That also means trying to avoid potential sources of errors from poor construction work already during the design phase. But well, engineers don’t design houses, architects do – I guess that’s why they usually don’t look like grandma’s block house from the 1950s 😉

As the construction expert already mentioned:
"If the position of the gutter is sealed according to the regulations, there should be no problems here."

This gutter is certainly not a groundbreaking innovation. Of course, it is somewhat more complex than the standard solution (metal gutter hung in front of the roof), but regarding leaks, it is no more critical than a flat roof. Such roofs are designed, among other things, to handle standing water (to put it simply and briefly).

However – you wouldn’t believe how many homeowners have retroactively sealed off an internal roof space, especially in roofing companies. 😕

Do you have a picture of something like that? So far, I only know of external roofs. :p
