Hello everyone,

we are planning to build a single-family house in Baden-Württemberg.
I often read about structural engineering verification.
Do we need to budget for this?

As far as I understand, it depends on the type of building.

Best regards,

My architect had the structural calculations reviewed by a third party (which was necessary), costing me 1900 euros. The house is quite simple in design, 1.5 stories, just under 140 square meters (1507 square feet), gable roof, solid construction.

Structural engineers for independent verification are only mandatory in a few federal states. Hesse and Brandenburg, or something like that? In Baden-Württemberg, I don't believe they are required.

My process and amount were the same. However, for me, it was 1900 euros net.

Whether it is mandatory or not is another matter. But I have no interest in ending up with a shell of a building where the structural engineering is flawed due to a lack of a two-person check.

Do you also have a second architect, HVAC specialist, and tiler?

The structural engineer is responsible for their work. In the rest of the country, that is sufficient.

We in Bavaria also did not have to do that.
