ᐅ Planning and Preparing a Decentralized Mechanical Ventilation System with Heat Recovery for Residential Buildings

Hello everyone,

During my renovation, I unfortunately postponed the topic of mechanical ventilation for a long time, and now I’m unsure whether and how I should install one. I am aware of all the pros and cons, for example from this thread.

My biggest concern is that the fans might be too noisy. Also, there is currently no budget allocated for this.

If I had to prioritize my requirements, I would say:
1. as quiet as possible
2. flexible control
The airflow volume is less important to me, since even an undersized system significantly improves the indoor climate as long as regular ventilation takes place.

At the moment, I am leaning towards the Lunos e² or e²neo for the bedrooms and living areas, controlled via KNX. Even though I originally did not want KNX. Are there any flexible alternatives?

Does it make sense to prepare now by, for example, making 160mm (6 inch) core drill holes, laying cables, and installing the ventilation system later?

Best regards,
Tassimat

Hello @Tassimat, how did you decide? I’m facing a similar issue. Best regards

I recently ordered an e² unit for testing.
At the normal setting, it is extremely loud, and the fan runs unevenly, producing unpleasant scratching noises when expelling air. The switch-over point is also always noticeably audible. I’m not sure if I just got unlucky with this particular device or if all e² units are like this, but for me personally, devices from this brand are unsuitable.

I would currently remove the topic of flexible control from my priority list.
I would be satisfied with something very quiet for continuous operation, but which ventilation system is actually usable? I think units that only require a simple core drilling tend to be inherently noisier than I would like. Perhaps those with a 200mm (8 inch) diameter? Smaller ones definitely don’t provide enough airflow, which makes the fans loud. I don’t believe another manufacturer could produce a significantly quieter device at the same diameter and airflow than the one I tested.

Well, at the moment, I’ve lost interest in this topic, so I probably won’t be installing a decentralized controlled residential ventilation system.

Have you ever tried Meltem?

I once tested the Sevi 160, and they were quite quiet in comparison. When switching modes, the fans gradually ramp up.

No, I haven’t ordered or tested anything else. The Meltem seems too bulky for my needs. I have to install it in an existing building, and overall it might end up being too expensive. As for the devices from Seventilation, I wouldn’t even know where to order them. Everything is very unsatisfactory.
