Hello dear experts/builders,

I have a big problem with where to place the gutter on the south side of our new build.

On the left side of the house, there is a corner window on the ground floor, so from my point of view, proper rainwater drainage is not possible.
What does it look like if a pipe goes past the corner window?

On the right side, there is a ground floor extension with a flat roof—see the attached photo.
According to the construction company, drainage is not possible here!
But surely there must be a way, right?
Could someone please help me with this?

An internal drainage system is also difficult. We are building with a timber frame construction method.

Thank you very much,

What reason does the construction company give? That could be a valid reason.
There is not enough information to provide any helpful advice.
It is not enough to just describe any way down from the roof; the volume of water and where it should be directed must also be taken into account. For example, it is unclear how the roof is pitched, what surface area needs to be drained, and where the drainage should go (e.g. sewer system, soakaway pit, infiltration basin…). Also, whether existing infrastructure like sewer connections, soakaways, cisterns, etc. is already built or planned to be used.

I actually didn’t want an ugly downpipe in the middle ☹
Then choose a less obtrusive option or use cladding, or turn the disadvantage into a feature by installing a vertical water feature on the wall (try searching for Kunsthofpassage Dresden Neustadt) or build some kind of pipe bridge that first leads the pipe away from the house and the corner window, then down—e.g. into a small stream or something similar. With a bit of creativity, many solutions are possible, often resulting in something uniquely appealing.

I’m currently finding it a bit difficult to share full house elevations and floor plans publicly… We really paid a lot for the plans
I don’t see any causal connection here, but I accept that you prefer not to share plans; no reason or justification is needed. They are your plans.

And it is the time of those willing to help, whose assistance is used much more efficiently when they are not given information in too small amounts. I do see a causal connection here — but by now I have stopped pointing out such essential causal links to adults and simply quietly move on without helping anymore. Still, I always feel a bit annoyed by the attitude of the respective questioners who want to “wash me but not get me wet.” If I go to the doctor coughing, the doctor will say I need to bare my upper body; after all, the stethoscope doesn’t have X-ray vision. Of course, I could then say no, in his practice I wouldn’t have my usual 25°C (77°F) in winter coat, I don’t need a diagnosis anymore as I have already made it myself...

For me it is clear that the downpipe must be at the right corner…

... so logically I would only need the prescription; that might well be allowed in a free country — but that doesn’t make it sensible at the same time.
