Bulla200021 Feb 2011 18:21Hello, we are currently in the detailed planning stage for our single-family house. We are installing the Alpha Innotec KHZ60 (heat pump with integrated controlled ventilation system). The fresh air intake for the ventilation module has now been positioned on the side of the front door lintel in the exterior wall, approximately 2.30m (7.5 ft) above ground level.
However, the supply and exhaust openings for the heat pump (which is located in the utility room in the basement) are to be made through wall penetrations and light wells. For the exhaust air, I only see the potential issue of dirt accumulating on the plaster above the exhaust air light well. But regarding the supply air or the supply air light well, I have read that these often attract dust, dirt, insects, snow, etc., which frequently clog the intake filters and lead to high maintenance costs. In one construction diary, a completely sealed ice layer formed on the weather protection grille of the light well due to freezing sleet.
What do you think about this? Is supplying fresh air through a light well acceptable? I see the above-mentioned concerns, and I would consider taking protective measures (such as shields, planting around the light well, etc.). Would it not be possible to position the heat pump’s fresh air intake next to the intake for the controlled ventilation system?
