ᐅ Placement of Chimney / Panoramic Fireplace

Hello,

we are in the final stages of planning our house and floor layout, but the topic of the fireplace and chimney is really giving us trouble. Our preferred chimney location was not approved due to the roof slopes, so we have to reconsider.

We are now considering a panoramic fireplace, which would also function as a kind of room divider. We like, for example, this one:

What I am wondering now is—where does the chimney go in this case? Does it have to be directly behind the fireplace, that is, between the wall and the fireplace? Or can it also be located above the fireplace? Surely it is arranged like this in the fireplace shown in the picture (or the chimney is behind/inside the wall)? I am not exactly sure how this works, since the chimney is built during the shell construction of the house and the lower part of the chimney would later have to be removed again to install the fireplace there?

Maybe someone can clarify this for me.

Thank you very much
Sebastian

Haha... no! It’s not that simple.

I don’t know the image you uploaded here. If it was one from Hark, Olsberg, Plewa, or another fireplace manufacturer, the source would be sufficient for me since they usually have their own photographers or have purchased rights that do not require naming the photographer when distributing the images. In those cases, the photographer might have no interest in enforcing their copyright, and for the fireplace manufacturer, sharing the image would be a form of self-promotion.
But: it’s not that simple because we don’t know the context.

What is this nonsense about the images? If you name the source of the image, it should be fine. If the photographer didn’t want to show it, they wouldn’t have uploaded it online in the first place.
This "nonsense" is called copyright. I recommend a recent WISO program on the subject; it should be available in the ZDF media library.

Directly embedding a photo is not allowed, but mentioning a link to a photo is permitted unless you upload it yourself and link to it.

Another question: why was the chimney not allowed because of the roof slope?

Correct, but links are not allowed according to the forum rules, which makes things difficult. Links to the manufacturer would certainly be the easiest option, but then the link could be considered advertising, especially since manufacturers might decide to register anonymously in the forum and link to their own content. From a moderator’s perspective, this always creates a fine line when deciding case by case, which involves some effort.
Of course, you could take a photo yourself, but where would you do that? In a dealer’s showroom, photography rights may be restricted due to property rights. You would therefore possibly need to ask for permission to take and publish a picture there. The dealer might then want their company name mentioned, which again would count as advertising…

Cleaning wouldn’t be the issue, but as I’ve recently learned, there is no DIPT panoramic fireplace available—only room-air-dependent panoramic fireplaces—and these are not allowed to be connected to an LAS chimney system. Instead, they require fresh air supply through a pipe in the floor slab.

Since this topic has become quite frustrating for us and we’ve already spent so many hours on it, we’ve decided to go with a corner fireplace instead: Test.Partnerdaten.Brunner.de/114726/GalleryImages/114726_%7B8D17BA4B-D848-4E57-B0D6-D947C34E6A9E%7D.JPG

P.S.
I hope the link works. I’ve now hidden it using the “remove link” function.

@Alex: I got the picture directly from the Spartherm website. If the forum doesn’t allow links, there should be an option to insert them as plain text. That would help everyone. Having neither links nor images is not ideal…

@tomtom79

We have (or will have) an urban villa with a hipped roof, and the chimney would come out right at such an edge (that’s called a rafter, if I’m not mistaken). I can gladly upload our floor plan sometime (red = chimney, green = fireplace).
